Local retailers, restaurants gearing up for 'Small Business Saturday'

A new survey by the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) and American Express shows that many small business owners will start their holiday promotions earlier and invest in promotion and sales on Small Business Saturday, November 30.’
*70% say it will be helpful in attracting new customers
*18% will pay for advertising for Small Business Saturday on radio, TV or newspaper (9% in 2012)
*33% will offer a free gift with purchase (up from 20% in 2012)
*39% will collaborate with other small businesses to promote Small Business Saturday
*36% will offer coupons for future offers or discounts
*21% will increase the number of employees working on Small Business Saturday’
This is the 4th yearly celebration of Small Business Saturday, which falls one day after Black Friday and two days before Cyber Monday.’ The day was created to help bring consumers through the doors of small local merchants and keep communities strong.’ Small businesses often hire locally.’ They frequently support their communities by sponsoring local events, teams or charities. Small businesses are a critical part of the state and national economy.’
