For the second year in a row, Kids VT, Vermont’ s free monthly parenting magazine, took home top prizes in the Parenting Media Association’ s Design and Editorial Awards Competition, presented last Saturday at the organization’ s annual convention in Atlanta, Ga.
Kids VT won first-place ‘ gold’ in its circulation category for:

Best Overall Design
Best Illustration Cover, newsprint (June 2012)
Kids VT won second-place ‘ silver’ in its circulation category for:
Best News Feature (’ School Spirit,’ Kathryn Flagg, September, 2012)
Best Briefs/Short Stuff (’ The Kids Beat,’ April and October, 2012)
Best Special Series (’ Vermont Day-cations,’ June-August 2012)
Independent newsweekly Seven Days purchased Kids VT in December 2010 and redesigned the magazine, with a commitment to high-quality, local content by Vermont writers. These improvements earned Kids VT several awards in last year’ s 2011 PMA competition, including for best overall writing and design.
This year’ s results suggest Kids VT has built on that foundation throughout 2012. One judge commented that ‘ Kids VT stands out in its category as a lively, fun-to-read publication.’ Another noted, ‘ The writing is consistently compelling.’
The PMA, headquartered in Los Angeles, Calif., represents more than 120 parenting magazines and newspapers in the United States, Canada and Australia.
