Vermont Gas to add 14 in Chittenden, Addison counties

Vermont Gas plans to hire 14 people to support its plans to bring a natural gas line to Addison County and beyond.
The positions, which range from technicians to dispatchers to customer service representatives, will support Vermont Gas operations in Chittenden and Franklin counties as well as the Addison Natural Gas Project that brings the benefits of natural gas to Addison County and the International Paper plant in Ticonderoga, New York. The company currently employs more than 122 Vermonters.
"Today Vermont Gas employees provide high-quality, cost-effective energy services to our 45,000 customers in northwestern Vermont," said Don Gilbert, president and CEO of Vermont Gas. Vermont Gas customers consistently rank the company extremely highly, with customer satisfaction levels near 95%.
"We plan to make large investments to bring the economic and environmental benefits of natural gas service to more Vermonters beyond Chittenden and Franklin Counties. We are excited to add staff to match those infrastructure upgrades and maintain our high level of customer satisfaction," Gilbert said.
"Vermonters want more affordable energy choices, and we're confident that with these new positions we'll both meet their needs and position the company for future expansion of natural gas service in Vermont," added Gilbert. "In the future, when we extend natural gas service further to Rutland, we expect to hire additional staff."
Vermont residential customers can cut their energy cost by almost 50% converting to natural gas, in some cases saving in excess of $2,000 per year. Natural gas prices are 45% less than fuel oil and 55% less than propane. In addition, conversions to natural gas service reduce greenhouse gas emissions by as much as 26%.
