Johnson Controls, the global leader in delivering solutions that increase energy efficiency in buildings, welcomes Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin to the National Governors Association Summer Meeting, August 1-4 in Milwaukee, home to the company that partners with public and private organizations in Vermont to promote energy efficiency and renewable energy projects. Johnson Controls currently guarantees more than $2 million in energy and operational savings resulting from projects throughout Vermont.
‘Energy efficiency saves money, creates jobs and reduces carbon pollution, so it is needs to be our number one fuel of choice,’said Bob Steele, area general manager, Johnson Controls Building Efficiency. ‘By focusing on energy efficiency, Gov. Shumlin is effectively managing Vermont’s resources.’
Gov. Shumlin is an advocate for energy efficiency and recently signed into law three bills that improve access to energy efficiency and clean energy for Vermont.
Buildings consume 40 percent of the world's energy. Building efficiency can be applied to any type of building from a courthouse to a university, saving each agency and organization money that can be reinvested. Organizations in Vermont are making their facilities more efficient using a variety of measures, including utilizing building management systems to optimize energy and operational efficiency, installing renewable energy technology, using more efficient lighting, and updating heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.
In Vermont, Johnson Controls provides energy performance contracting in which savings in energy consumption from facility upgrades pay for the project over the term of the contract. If the savings are not realized, Johnson Controls pays the difference between the value of the measured and verified consumption and the guaranteed consumption under the contract.
Johnson Controls’performance contracting projects have saved nearly 19 million metric tons of carbon dioxide, equivalent to that saved by 15.5 million acres of forests, and generated savings of $7 billion in North America since 2000.
Johnson Controls energy efficiency projects in Vermont have resulted in 36 jobs and an additional $3.6 million of spending in the state.
