Vermont House of Representatives passes Self-Employment Assistance Bill

The House on Friday passed H57- An Act relating to self-employment assistance. This bill will establish a self-employment assistance program which would allow qualified applicants to receive unemployment benefits while participating in activities for the purpose of establishing a business and becoming self-employed.
‘ Good jobs are crucial to a stable economy and a productive population,’ said Speaker Shap Smith, ‘ we want to offer flexibility to Vermonters as we encourage them to create businesses and, in turn, create new jobs. Self-employment assistance will help hard-working Vermonters to realize the dream of business ownership.’
House Committee on Commerce and Economic Development Chair Bill Botzow expressed the importance of the bill as he said, ‘ the more ways we can get Vermonters back to work doing what they love and what they do best, the better off we are.’
The bill passed the House with bi-partisan support and has moved to the Senate for consideration.
