Britton Lumber sold to Robert Moses of New Hampshire

Britton Lumber Company, Inc of Fairlee, Vermont, will be acquired effective January 1, 2014 by Robert E Moses of Lebanon, NH. Terms of the deal were not released. The corporate stock is being purchased from Douglas G Britton of Norwich, Vermont, who has been with the company since 1973 and purchased the stock from his father, Allen H Britton Jr, in 1984.
Bob Moses will become the President and CEO of Britton Lumber Company, Inc. Doug Britton will remain with the company as a management consultant. Britton said that there will be no changes to locations or employees related to the change of ownership.
Britton Lumber Company, Inc was founded in 1946 in Hartland, Vermont, by Allen H Britton, Allen H Britton Jr, and Leonard W Britton. It ran both portable and stationary sawmills out of several locations including Hartland, Norwich, West Fairlee and Ely, Vermont, in the 1940s through the 1960s.
It currently operates two divisions: Manufacturing, which produces Eastern White Pine boards with a sawmill, dry kilns and planermill in Fairlee; and Wholesale Distribution, which sells building materials from warehouses in Fairlee and Gray, ME.
The company’s manufactured products are sold to wholesalers and distributors in the United States and Canada. The Wholesale Distribution division buys a wide variety of building materials from manufacturers in North America and distributes them to over 200 retail lumber yards and home centers in Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts and New York.
There are approximately 60 employees, companywide. Britton Lumber has just completed a significant upgrade of its sawmill machinery and is in the process of adding staff in the wholesale division.
Bob Moses has an accounting background and founded and owned a prominent practice in Lebanon, NH, Robert E Moses Certified Public Accountants, for 26 years. In February 2013, he sold the accounting firm to Nathan Wechsler & Company of Concord, NH, which has retained the 44 School Street Lebanon location along with the entire staff.
Moses has a 25-year relationship with Britton Lumber as their CPA and an in depth knowledge of the company.
