Four artist teams share preliminary design concepts for public art at new psychiatric hospital

Four artist teams will share preliminary design concepts Thursday to compete for a $40,000 permanent public art commission at the Vermont Psychiatric Care Hospital in Berlin, Vermont.
The Vermont Arts Council and the Vermont Department of Buildings and General Services invite members of the public to an open meeting on Thursday, December 12, 2013 from 10:45 am ‘ 1 pm. The meeting will be held in the Pavilion Building Auditorium in Montpelier at 109 State Street. The permanent installation is part of the Vermont Art in State Buildings Program administered by the Vermont Arts Council.
At the meeting four artist teams, chosen from a pool of 27 applicants, will present their preliminary design concepts for a permanent work of art to be commissioned for the new Psychiatric Care Hospital in Berlin, VT. The artists will present images, drawings, plans, or models as available. After the public presentation, the Project Review Committee, made up of selected building employees, community members, visual arts experts and the building architect will meet to determine which of the artists will be selected as the ‘Lead Artist Team’ to further develop their concept and create the final design.
The four teams include:
Team A: Chris Miller, Giuliano Cecchinelli, Ryan Mays, Heather Milne Ritchie and Gampo Wickenheiser, sculptors from Central Vermont area;
Team B: Elizabeth Billings of Tunbridge and Andrea Wasserman of Vershire;
Team C: Dan Gottsegen of Hartland and Terry Boyle of Huntington;
Team D: Amy Houghton/Wagner Hodgson Landscaping of Burlington and Chris Curtis/Terri Swenson of Stowe.

The Art in State Buildings Program is a partnership between the Vermont Arts Council and the Vermont Department of Buildings and General Services.
