‘Tom really earned this opportunity,’ said current CEO Chris Dutton. He added: ‘Tom is uniquely qualified given his broad and deep knowledge of all aspects of the New England transmission system, the respect and trust he’s earned internally at VELCO and externally as a leader and, perhaps most importantly, Tom’s record of delivering consistently superior results even as has undertaken greater responsibilities.’
‘I am grateful to the VELCO Directors for the strong vote of confidence in in my abilities and look forward to continuing to learn from Chris during this two month transition,’ said Dunn. ‘We have a great team at VELCO and I look forward to building on what we have accomplished together. I am excited by this opportunity to lead VELCO at a time of transition for both the company and the electric industry as a whole.’
‘The VELCO Board concluded, rightly in my view, Tom was the top choice out of a field of more than 200 well-qualified candidates,’ said VELCO Board Chair Larry Reilly. He added: ‘This is clearly the right choice at the right time for VELCO.’
Dunn was named COO in August 2012 having served as Vice President of Transmission Services since 2010 and Director of Capital Projects since 2005. Prior to his arrival at VELCO in 2000 to serve as the company’s Manager of NEPOOL Relations and Project Manager, Dunn served as the Vermont Department of Public Service’s Chief of Utilities Engineering, beginning in 1992. He earned his MBA from Boston College and a BS in Marine Engineering from Massachusetts Maritime Academy. Tom and his wife Kirsten and four daughters live in Montpelier.
