Northern Power Systems expanding commitment to wind turbine market in Italy

Northern Power Systems (www.northernpower.com), a next-generation wind turbine technology company and leading manufacturer of permanent magnet direct-drive wind turbines, is increasing its commitment to the small wind turbine market in Italy. Since 2009, the Company has built up the largest small wind turbine installed base in the country, with turbines operating in the regions of Campania, Basilicata, Abruzzo and Marche collectively generating enough green energy to power over 6,000 homes per year.
Italy currently ranks as the 7th largest producer of wind power in the world. Thanks to a modification of the feed-in tariff in 2012 for electricity produced by wind turbines, investment in small wind projects is rapidly increasing. Northern Power Systems has customized its product offerings and is dedicating additional resources to provide the highest potential opportunity for customers to maximize their returns when selecting Northern Power Systems' turbines.
"We see ourselves as a strategic partner to owners of small wind turbines; working with them to realize the highest potential return on their investment," stated Troy Patton, President and CEO, Northern Power Systems. "Northern Power has customized our proven higher performance gearless turbine and bundled it with manufacturer-certified services to offer a compelling advantage to our customers."
Northern Power Systems has recently completed tailoring a version of its 60kW wind turbine for optimized performance in Italian wind regimes in compliance with Italian CEI 0-21 requirements. In addition, the Company is expanding service offerings to help owners maximize turbine lifetime performance through integrated Monitoring services, Operations and Maintenance packages and Extended Warranty solutions. Northern Power is also working with our customers and prospects to arrange for turbine financing through some of Italy's major commercial banks.
As a further commitment to Italy, Northern Power Systems added Enrico Lambertini to the Italian team as an Application Engineer. Enrico will be responsible for supporting Northern Power sales representatives, distributors and project development partners in Italy on technical matters, and also will identify jurisdictional authorities, local ordinances and regulatory requirements to support the company's Italian customers throughout the planning process.
Enrico comes to Northern Power from Tozzi Nord, an Italian manufacturer of small wind turbines, where he was responsible for mechanical engineering R&D, energy production optimization, and project management for VAWT prototypes.
"We are excited to have Enrico on board. He has substantial experience in the small wind market and brings the required skills and energy to support our customers and help build a high growth business here in Italy," said Vito Zongoli, Regional Director, Mediterranean, Northern Power Systems.
Northern Power Systems is a fully integrated company that designs, manufactures, and sells wind turbines into the global marketplace from its headquarters in Vermont, USA, with European headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland and a significant presence in the United Kingdom and Italy. The Company's proven, next generation PM/DD, wind turbine technology is based on a vastly simplified architecture that utilizes a unique combination of a permanent magnet generator and direct-drive design. This proven approach uses fewer moving parts, delivers higher energy capture, and provides increased reliability due to reduced maintenance and downtime. Northern Power Systems currently manufactures the NPS’¢ 60 and 100 turbines.
