People’s United Community Foundation awards nearly $700,000 in Q2

The Peopleâ s United Community Foundation announced today that for the second quarter of 2012 it awarded $697,500 in grants to nonprofit organizations throughout the communities it serves in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, New York, New Hampshire and Maine.

Eighty-six organizations received funding in support of their programs, which ranged from basic needs services and affordable housing projects, to education and job training programs. The funding was distributed within the Foundationâ s three areas of focus, with 33 percent allocated to community development, 26 percent to youth development and 16 percent to affordable housing initiatives. The Peopleâ s United Community Foundation also contributed 25 percent of its funding to local United Way organizations across its footprint through the Peopleâ s United Bank employee match campaign.

â The Peopleâ s United Community Foundation is thrilled to be able to contribute to the efforts of so many non-profit agencies across our expanding footprint,’said Vincent Santilli, Executive Director of the Foundation. â Our grantees work assiduously to improve neighborhoods and the quality of life for residents in their communities, and we are proud of the positive impact they are having.â
