Vermonters win at 'Olympics of Beer'

The Brewers Association of Denver, CO has announced the winners of the World Beer Cup 2012, a global beer competition that evaluates beers from around the world and recognizes the most outstanding beers being produced, and has singled out two Vermont breweries for excellence. Known as the â Olympics of Beer,’the World Beer Cup is held every two years, and last week it was held inSan Diego,CAin conjunction with the Craft Brewers Conference.
The Alchemist Pub & BreweryofWaterbury,VTreceived a Silver medal in the British Style Imperial Stout category for Luscious.
Lawsonâ s Finest LiquidsofWarren,VTwon a Silver medal in the Specialty Beer category for Maple Tripple.
Luscious ‘Is a wonderfully big beer that pours pitch black with a creamy head, and comes through with rich notes of caramel and chocolate. This beer was one of two beers that survived the flood that destroyed The Alchemist Pub & Brewery during Tropical Storm Irene. Through the efforts of staff from Harpoon Brewery, Rock Art Brewery and Hill Farmstead Brewery, the beer was saved. ~ 11% a/v

The World Beer Cup 2012 winners were selected by an international panel of 211 beer judges from 27 countries. An impressive field of 3,921 entries from 799 breweries in 54 countries made up the competition.
