Seven Days brings home 10 awards

Seven Days, an independent weekly newspaper based in Burlington, won four national awards at the annual Association of Alternative Newsmedia conference in Detroit earlier this month and six awards at the Vermont Press Association ceremony on the last day of May.
The AAN AltWeekly Awards â honor superior journalism and graphic design among alternative publications across the United States and Canada,’notes the AAN website. â The contest promotes excellence by recognizing work that is well written, incisively reported and effectively challenges established orthodoxies.â
Seven Days won four awards in the â under 50,000’circulation category, including:
* Food writing: Second place, Corin Hirsch
* Media Reporting: Second place, Megan James and Margot Harrison
* Photography: Second place, Matthew Thorsen and Jeb Wallace-Brodeur
* Illustration: Honorable mention, Jeff Drew
The Vermont Press Association awards ceremony is an annual competition among the daily and nondaily newspapers in the state of Vermont.
Seven Days won six awards including:
* John D. Donoghue Award for Arts Criticism, including daily and nondaily media:
o First place: Pamela Polston
o Second place: Dan Bolles
* Best State Story, nondaily: Second place, Ken Picard
* Feature writing, nondaily: Second place, Paula Routly
* Outstanding website, nondaily: Second place, Seven Days
* Best local story, nondaily: Honorable mention, Ken Picard

Da Capo Publishing Inc, dba Seven Days, was founded by Pamela Polston and Paula Routly in 1995. In addition to its free publications, the company also produces two annual events: Vermont Restaurant Week and the Vermont Tech Jam, a job fair and tech expo.
In 2000, the Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce selected then-5-year-old Seven Days as Business of the Year. Eight years later, the Burlington Business Association did the same, citing the company's exemplary business practices, contributions to the community, and promotion of a positive image for Burlington, as well as business success.
