State of Vermont launches @ThisisVT, a shared citizen’s Twitter handle

Vermont intends to be the first state in the US to launch a rotating Twitter handle managed by citizens. Modeled after similar European handles that have amassed international attention, the @ThisisVT handle is organized by The Vermont Department of Tourism and Marketing with new authors tweeting weekly. Vermont residents can share first-hand why they love to work, play and live in Vermont, in their own voice and uncensored. Both Sweden and The Netherlands were the first countries to launch such a campaign in 2012.
‘Vermonters are unique, with equally unique reasons for why they live in, and love Vermont,’Deputy Commissioner Steve Cook said. ‘This social media platform offers a tremendous opportunity for Vermonters to showcase their experiences and the Vermont Tourism team aims to share these stories with visitors or those considering relocating to our state.’
The first Vermont tweeter will begin on Monday, July 23. Vermonters are encouraged to apply to be a guest tweeter or nominate someone they feel has a special connection to this state. Applicants will be reviewed by the Vermont Department of Tourism and Marketing. Visit www.thisisvt.com/nominateand @ThisisVT on Twitter to hear the latest Vermonter’s views.
