Vermont Lieutenant Governor and race car driver Phil Scott was selected to wave the green flag at Saturday's NASCAR Nationwide race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon.
The race’s title sponsor, FW Webb Company, asked their customers to nominate people who represented the ‘Spirit of Vermont.’Forbes Morrell, owner of Forbes Maintenance Services in Corinth, nominated Scott, and he was ultimately chosen to do the honors at the FW Webb 200.
FW Webb is a wholesale distributor of plumbing, heating and cooling products, pumps and industrial supplies, with over 70 stores throughout the Northeast and 8 locations in Vermont. They hosted over 1,100 customers at their 2012 Vermont Expo in May at the BOR Arena in Barre.
‘At that meeting, we honored the resilient nature of the people of Vermont,’said David Guinard, Manager of F.W. Webb in Barre. ‘We all felt that Lieutenant GovernorScott was an ideal nominee due to his contributions in the wake of Hurricane Irene, his Barre roots, and, of course, his passion for racing.’
‘For a race guy like me, to be asked to participate at any event at New Hampshire is a thrill and an honor,’Scott said. ‘But the honor of how I was chosen is even more meaningful. I want to thank Mr. Morrell and F.W. Webb for putting my name forward. I’ll be waving the green flag on Saturday in honor of everyone who showed our ‘Vermont Strong’Spirit.’
