Vermont Gas announced plans for an overall rate reduction of 3.6% to take effect on July 21st, 2012. This is the 13th rate decrease Vermont Gas has passed on to customers since 2008, resulting in prices that are 40% less than fuel oil and 51% lower than propane.
"July's upcoming rate decrease continues the trend of lower natural gas prices for Vermont Gas customers," said Tim Lyons, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Vermont Gas. "The strong supply of North American natural gas has resulted in prices that are substantially less than other heating fuel alternatives. As a result, our customers are able to lower their energy bills while using a fuel that is more convenient and better for the environment," Lyons said.
Since 2008, Vermont Gas has continued to convert more customers over to natural gas, adding over 5,200 customers or an average of 1,300 customers per year. Vermont Gas has also expanded service coverage into Jericho, Underhill and Hinesburg and is working to extend service into Richmond this summer. Vermont Gas also continues work to provide service into Addison County, adding to Franklin and Chittenden Counties.
