Former VA Secretary Nicholson joins MMIC’s team of business advisors

MMIC (Mobile Medical International Corporation) is pleased to announce the addition of R. James ‘Jim’ Nicholson, former Secretary of Veterans Affairs, to their Board of Directors. Nicholson joined the board in the fourth quarter of 2011. MMIC manufactures world-class mobile medical facilities and rapidly deployable shelter systems that are used across the globe for a variety of international and domestic needs.

Nicholson served as the Secretary of Veterans Affairs from February 2005 through September 2007. In this role he was the principal advocate for veterans in the U.S. government, ensuring that they received the care, support, recognition and dignity that they deserve. Nicholson was also responsible for a nationwide system of hospitals, health care clinics, benefit programs and national cemeteries for the twenty-four million veterans in America.
Prior to his tenure as VA Secretary, Nicholson served as the U.S. Ambassador to the Holy See from 2001 to 2005. In October 2003 he was knighted by Pope John Paul II for his work in human rights as the United States representative to the Vatican.
‘It is an honor to have Mr. Nicholson join our Board of Directors,’ said MMIC President and CEO Rick Cochran. ‘His involvement in advocating for our nation’s veterans will provide us with invaluable insight into our efforts to support our nation’s active and retired military. Jim’s vast experience within the VA system along with his understanding of the significant value from both a financial and operational perspective to the system, all while raising the standard of care, is a welcome perspective to my Board of Directors.’
Nicholson is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY. He served eight years on active duty as a paratrooper and Ranger, then 22 years in the Army Reserve, retiring with the rank of Colonel. Additionally, he earned a master’s degree from New York’s Columbia University and a law degree from the University of Denver.
Nicholson was elected to be the Republican National Committeeman from Colorado in January 1986. In 1993 he was elected vice-chairman of the RNC, and in January 1997 he was elected chairman of the RNC where he served for four years overseeing the elections of 2000, including that of former President George W Bush. Recipient of nine honorary degrees, Nicholson additionally serves on the Board of Directors of the Federated Investors Fund, the Daniels Fund and the Horatio Alger Association.
