Stowe company puts local twist on the 'Deal Site' concept

The idea of offering deals on a website is not a new one.But a little company in Stowe, Vermont is taking it local and giving it a new twist.CheckitoutVT launched its website,checkitoutVT.com, in June and has over 30 promotions, specials, sales or deal offerings posted from businesses in the Stowe area.
When many think of deal sites they think of a site offering one product or service at a time at a discounted rate where the shopper buys the product or service right then and there.
CheckitoutVT has gone a different route, providing a site where businesses can post their deals as they wish and change them as they wish for a very low fee.Then, with no pressure, shoppers can view current offerings on the site and print the coupon at no cost.
One of the company’s co-founders, Bart Newhouse, was born and raised in Vermont and his family has been in the furniture business locally for over 50 years.He feels strongly that the concept is an easy and cost-effective way for local businesses of any size and type to get additional and much-needed visibility.
‘We really want to focus on showcasing what local businesses have to offer, both to residents as well as visitors to the state.Our scope will be expanding soon to include different trading areas around Vermont.Shoppers will have the opportunity to choose where they would like to shop then find deals from local, familiar businesses.
Newhouse emphasizes the idea is not to offer an unsustainable discount, but rather to attract new and current customers with savings, specials or promotions the business wants to offer and which might otherwise be overlooked.
