Kurt Wright running for mayor of Burlington

Tuesday morning Republican Kurt Wright announced that he would be a candidate for mayor of Burlington, Vermont. Wright made the announcement on the Channel 3 Morning News and on the Charlie & Ernie & Lisa Show on WVMT 620-AM.
Wright said, ‘After much discussion, thought and encouragement I’ve decided to run for mayor of Burlington. I can tell you that job number one for me will be to restore fiscal responsibility to the city and restore our credit rating.
"This race is not about party politics," he said, "It will be about who the people of Burlington think can do the best job. Voters will choose the best person who can restore trust and credibility to the City of Burlington and I think I’m that person.
"I love Burlington and my candidacy will be offering big ideas and real solutions over the next few months.’
Wright is a state representative from Burlington 3-1. According to his legislative biography, Wright was born in Middlebury, Vermont on February 7, 1956, and became a resident of Burlignton in 1978. He grew up in Vergennes and graduated from Vergennes Union High School and attended business classes at Champlain College. He is manager of Kerry’s Kwik Shop on St. Paul Street in Burlington. He is married to the former Kimberly Nuttlall who is in the health care industry.
Wright has been a member of the Chittenden County Republican Committee, a Republican delegate to the State Convention, and Chairman of the Burlington Republican City Committee. Wright served on Burlington’s Ward 4 Neighborhood Planning Assembly and as one of Burlington’s City Constables. In 1995, he was elected to Burlington’s City Council, serving 2 terms. He was elected to serve on the City’s Finance Board and has been twice elected as Justice of the Peace.
