John Curran, writer of the Associated Press in Montpelier, dies

John Curran, a writer for the Associative Press of Montpelier, died on this past Saturday after suffering from a heart attack. John was only 54 years old and his death came as a shock to many. Governor Peter Shumlin made the following remarks after learning of John’s passing:
"Like so many Vermonters who knew John Curran, I am shocked and saddened by his death. John was an award-winning journalist who was thoughtful, thorough, and fair. My staff and I enjoyed working with John, and we mourn his loss. My thoughts are with his family, friends, and co-workers - John will be impossible to replace."
John worked for the AP in places like Virginia, Boston and New Jersey before he settled in Vermont in 2006 to report on and edit news in the Green Mountain State. Before that, John majored in Journalism at the St. Bonaventure University in New York and he first started contributing his writing to newspapers while serving in the US Army. He went on to work for the Niagara Gazette before joining the AP in 1989.
John’s burial ceremony will be at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Montpelier at 11 am on Thursday. Visiting hours are from 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home at 30 School Street.
