More than $1 million in SBA disaster loans approved in Vermont; deadline to apply August 15

More than $1 million in US Small Business Administration Disaster Assistance Loans have been approved for Vermont residents who were affected by the severe storms and flooding that occurred from April 23 - May 9, 2011Homeowners and renters who cannot afford a loan may be referred to FEMA for possible grant funds. There is a tendency for survivors to discard SBA disaster loan applications because they may not want a loan. However, they risk missing out on grants by not returning completed applications to SBA.
‘Currently, 46 home and business disaster loans have been approved in the amount of $1,050,300 for affected survivors in Vermont,’ said Frank Skaggs, director, SBA Field Operations Center East, Atlanta. ‘We are pleased to be able to get these loans approved so residents and businesses in the disaster area can start to rebuild and resume their normal lives. With the August 15 deadline approaching, I encourage anyone who has not completed their disaster loan application to do so and return it as quickly as possible,’ Skaggs added.
Those affected by the disaster should register with Federal Emergency Management (FEMA) at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or 800-462-7585 (TTY) for the hearing and speech impaired or register online at www.disasterassistance.gov.
