Shumlin releases assets, worth over $10 million

Peter Shumlin, the Democrat running for governor of Vermont, today released his list of assets. The total net comes to $10,674,934, with much of it in his business, Putney Student Travel, and real estate holdings in Windham County. Shumlin also included a detailed list of his investments and called upon Brian Dubie, his Republican opponent, to meet the same higher level of transparency. Dubie's financials listed his net worth at $1.2 million, most of which was in family real estate. Dubie's campaign had chided Shumlin for not releasing his assets sooner. Financials are below and attached.
"Peter grew up in a middle class family in Putney and with his brother turned their small, family business into a successful enterprise," said Alex MacLean, Campaign Manager. "A successful, small business owner, Peter knows what it will take to create and sustain good jobs for Vermonters. Peter is running for governor so all Vermonters can have the same opportunity he has had to grow a successful, small business and raise a family in Vermont."
The Dubie campaign said Friday that it was "pleased that five months after being asked to release his assets by both the Lieutenant Governor and his Democratic primary opponents, Peter Shumlin has finally released his assets. It should not have taken five months ‘ and daily requests for more than two weeks ‘ to create two simple spreadsheets."
‘When Peter Shumlin says he would rather be on his farm spreading manure, we don’t know which property that is because he has 18 of them,’ campaign manager Corry Bliss said. ‘When Peter Shumlin shows his Senate ID to the trooper who pulled him over for speeding, we don’t know which car he was driving, considering he owns seven of them. Peter Shumlin says he would like all Vermonters to have the opportunities he did, yet the anti-business tax policies he supports in the Legislature make that impossible. It is obvious why he does not object to paying more in taxes, as he can clearly afford it. For the rest of us who do not have millions in assets, higher taxes are an unaffordable luxury.’
The list of assets and investments is attached.
