Vermont Business Hall of Fame inducts inaugural winners

The Vermont Business Magazine (VBM), in partnership with the Vermont Chamber of Commerce (VCC), has established a Vermont Business Hall of Fame to be hosted at the University of Vermont's College of Business Administration. Each past winner of the Deane C Davis Award will be honored as a new member of the Hall of Fame with an induction ceremony. The first such ceremony was Tuesday night at UVM's Kalkin Hall.
The Deane C Davis Outstanding Vermont Business of the Year Award is presented annually by the Vermont Chamber of Commerce and Vermont Business Magazine at the opening ceremonies of the Vermont Chamber's Business & Industry EXPO. This year the award was presented Wednesday morning to BioTek Instruments of Winooski. Other finalists were the Foley Family of Companies of Rutland, and Small Dog Electronics of Waitsfield.
“This is the 20th year we and the Chamber have been privileged to bestow the Deane Davis Award on another outstanding Vermont company,” said Vermont Business Magazine publisher John Boutin. “It seems only appropriate that all these fine companies are the first inductees to the Vermont Business Hall of Fame.”
“The Deane C Davis Hall of Fame is a great way to honor past award recipients who have demonstrated resourcefulness, innovation and success,” said Betsy Bishop, President of the Vermont Chamber of Commerce. “These companies have shown a strong commitment to the Green Mountain State and capture the essence of what it means to be a Vermont business.”
The partnership among the University, VBM and VCC will further integrate the Vermont business community and the University of Vermont, highlighting the leadership and resources of the University in the arena of business research, training, and real-world application of knowledge.
"The University is proud to house the newly established Vermont Business Hall of Fame and to honor businesses in the state that exemplify the ideals of Deane C Davis” said UVM President Daniel Fogel. “This partnership with the Vermont Chamber of Commerce and Vermont Business Magazine epitomizes the University's ongoing commitment to creating knowledge and resources that fuel the economic engine of the state of Vermont."
"The School of Business Administration is pleased to be selected to house the Vermont Business Hall of Fame,” said Larry Shirland, Dean of the School of Business Administration. “We have a strong commitment to serving the business community through student internships, research projects, and providing professional expertise where appropriate."
Named after former Governor Deane C Davis, this prestigious award is given to the Vermont company that has met the highest standards of excellence in the past year as measured by improvement in sales, desirable work environment, and contribution of resources to the community. Past award winners include Hubbardton Forge, NRG Systems, Wild Apple Graphics, Waitsfield & Champlain Valley Telecom, and IDX Corporation.
On the evening before the announcement of the award winner, a reception will be held on campus in the lobby of Kalkin Hall, the new site of the Hall of Fame. This invitation-only event will include past award winners, the three finalists for the current year, and key leaders from business, government and the University.
Vermont Governor James Douglas presented this year’s award at the opening ceremonies of EXPO 2010 at the Sheraton Burlington Hotel. 2010.
