Emeril to air 'Vermont Fresh' cooking show on Monday

This past June a television production team came to Vermont to scout out locations, food producers and chefs for a series of Vermont-based episodes of celebrity Chef Emeril Lagasse's Emeril Green fresh, whole foods cooking show airing on Planet Green, a division of Discovery Communications. The Inn at Weathersfield, an historic 12-room inn and restaurant in Perkinsville, and Cedar Circle Farm, a 50-acre certified organic farm and education center in East Thetford, were selected to represent southeastern and central Vermont. Filming took place in September and the Emeril Green episode premieres next week.

On Monday, January 11 at 8 PM (ET) tune into the episode premiere "Vermont Fresh" featuring Chef Jason Tostrup, executive chef/partner of the Inn at Weathersfield. Everything that is served out of Jason's kitchen is part of the Vermont Fresh Network (www.vermontfresh.net ), a foundation whose goal is to preserve the integrity of Vermont's rich agricultural history by connecting chefs with the food they use. Chef Emeril makes a meal with Chef Jason using all Vermont-sourced products. Together, they recreate some favorites from Jason's menu like Green House Organic Salad with Local Prosciutto, Country Fried Quail, Buckwheat Gnocchi with Seasonal Veggies and for dessert, an Apple Cider Tart.
According to Chef Jason Tostrup, "It was an honor and privilege to work with Chef Emeril in showcasing Vermont's diverse food systems. It's Vermont's vibrant farming relationships and hard-working people that make Vermont such a special place in which to live, create and eat. Learn more at www.innatweathersfield.com
On Monday, January 18 PM (ET) see the episode premiere "Fall Harvest" highlighting Cedar Circle Farm. Located on conserved land along the Connecticut River, Cedar Circle is a farmstand and CSA that uses alternative energy (drip irrigation, solar and horse power). It also serves as the basis for an educational center whose mission it is to train the next generation of farmers, raise public awareness about the importance of local organic agriculture, increase access of quality organic produce for low income people, and establish models for farm-appropriate alternative energy strategies. The managers of the farm, Will Allen and Kate Duesterberg, join Chef Emeril to cook farm-fresh produce from their farm. On the menu: Cider Brined Turkey, Roasted Squash, Sautéed Kale and Pumpkin, and Hot Buttered Rum.
Kate Duesterberg and Will Allen comment saying, "It was very exciting for us at Cedar Circle Farm to have Emeril's crew come to the farm to film the show. They interviewed a lot of our staff and some of our CSA members. We are always very enthusiastic about sharing our philosophies on local and organic farming. Emeril and his team showed that they really care about promoting healthy food and farming, which is really what we're all about. Visit www.cedarcirclefarm.org to learn more.
