Shumlin names Keith Flynn to head Public Safety

Governor-elect Shumlin named Keith Flynn as the Commissioner of Public Safety today.
‘Keith’s experience on the front lines of law enforcement as well as in the judicial system give him the knowledge, insight and perspective that’s necessary to be a great Commissioner of Public Safety,’ said Shumlin. ‘I am deeply grateful to Keith for his willingness to tackle the challenge of making Vermont a safer place to live, work and raise a family.’
Keith Flynn is currently Orleans County State’s Attorney. In this role, he has worked collaboratively with the Courts, law enforcement agencies, defense counsel, social service agencies, victims and members of the public to keep Vermonters safe. Keith has also served as Chairman of the State’s Attorney’s Executive Committee. Flynn has also been a leader in his community, addressing truancy problems and helping victims of sexual abuse. He began his career as a member of the Vermont State Police where he was a trooper for six years. He received a B.A. from Castleton State College and a J.D. from Thomas Colley Law School. As Public Safety Commissioner, Flynn’s salary will be approximately $90,000.
