Burlington Telecom GM Chris Burns to leave position

August 10, 2010 ‘ Burlington, VT. The City of Burlington announced today that Burlington Telecom’s general manager, Chris Burns, will be leaving the City to take another job out of state. Mr. Burns has worked for Burlington Telecom since its inception in 2002. He started with BT as the project manager, overseeing BT’s phased buildout ‘ from initially serving the school department and City offices to establishing a municipally-run fiber-to-the-home network for residences and businesses throughout Burlington. In November of 2007 Mr. Burns became BT’s general manager, managing all aspects of the municipal telecom enterprise.
‘I appreciate the opportunity I’ve had to work at Burlington Telecom and for the City of Burlington,’ said Mr. Burns. ‘I highly value my time with the City as BT grew from just a concept to one of the few municipal fiber-to-the-home networks in the country. I now look forward to a new opportunity and would especially like to thank Mayor Kiss, CAO Leopold, the staff at BT, and department heads and City staff for their assistance and support over the years.’

He’s guided BT through a difficult time while it continues to provide excellent services at a good value to its customers. BT will maintain its high level of service as it transitions to new management.’
Mr. Burns’ last day will be August 27. Dorman & Fawcett, who has been actively involved in BT's operations since March, will assume the interim management of BT. The firm routinely handles day-to-day operational matters, including CEO, CFO, CTO and CMO roles. Dorman & Fawcett is currently serving as a financial advisor to the City regarding Burlington Telecom. Gary Evans, CEO of Hiawatha Broadband Communications (HBC), Inc., who has been working with Dorman & Fawcett on a number of longer term initiatives since May, will also become more active in BT's operations over the coming months. HBC is already familiar with Burlington Telecom, having made a report and recommendations in January of this year to the Blue Ribbon Committee on BT.
