Fort Ticonderoga Ferry will continue operation

The Addison County Chamber of Commerce has learned that the Fort Ticonderoga Ferry will continue operation. There will be no interruption of service as had been reported by several media outlets. The owners of the ferry and the states of New York and Vermont reached an agreement over the weekend so that the ferry will continue to provide service to passengers commuting between Ticonderoga, NY and Shoreham, VT, through December weather permitting, and will continue to be free to passengers.
All other transportation services (ferries and bus routes) for New York and Vermont commuters remain unchanged with the following exceptions:

Ferry service, provided by Basin Harbor Club, operating between Westport, NY and Vergennes, VT will be reduced from six to four crossings a day. (Currently transporting 60-70 riders per day on first two trips; low ridership on third AM and PM crossings)
CCTA will discontinue its service from the Charlotte dock to Shelburne and Burlington. If a commuter needs public transportation services from Charlotte to points north, they should contact Special Service Transportation Agency at 802-878-1527 one day in advance. (Low ridership)
ACTR announced its "Dial-a-Ride" service on November 9th for New York pedestrian commuters traveling on any of the three ferries. Call 24 hours in advance and ACTR will provide transportation to Addison County workplaces.

This agreement means the Fort Ticonderoga Ferry will operate as long as weather conditions permit. Plans for temporary ferry service just south of the Lake Champlain Bridge are underway. For more information on the temporary ferry service, go to the NYSDOT website.
