Shareheat and WARMTH

Chittenden Bank recently committed a $20,000 donation to Shareheat and a $20,000 donation to WARMTH emergency home heating assistance programs.

For over 20 years, Shareheat has provided emergency home heating assistance to residents within CVPS's service territory. Funds are raised from the general public and matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $100,000 by CVPS shareholders. Since 1987, Shareheat has raised over $2.8 million to prevent Vermonters from going cold during the heating season.. Hoping to ensure no one goes cold for lack of heating funds, CVPS has kicked off its 2008-2009 Shareheat campaign with a $100,000 pledge.

WARMTH has also been providing heating assistance for low-income Vermonters that depend on customer and utility donations for over 20 years. WARMTH is a state wide non-profit and provides funds to people facing emergency situations such as when a household has exhausted its supply of heating fuel and/or faces disconnection of electric service.

All funds raised through Shareheat and WARMTH are distributed to the five community action agencies that serve the donor's community, so their contributions help people in their neighborhoods. These agencies include: BROC, Central Vermont Community Action Council, Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity, Northeast Kingdom Community Action and Southeastern Vermont Community Action.

"With a heating crisis looming, the CVPS Shareheat Fund will be more important than ever for Vermont families in need," said CVPS President and CEO, Robert Young. "Chittenden Bank's generous support will ensure dozens of Vermont families stay warm, and it will encourage others to support Shareheat by doubling their own contributions.

Chittenden has shown tremendous leadership by proactively addressing the issue of emergency home heating assistance, and we greatly appreciate the support they have shown by donating $20,000 to the CVPS Shareheat Fund."
