The American Red Cross Blood Services, Northern New England Region is proud to report that on October 1 the Northeast Division, of which the Region is a part, was named Division of the Year out of seven divisions by American Red Cross Biomedical Services. These annual rankings placed the Division as first in the country for the 2008 fiscal year; the ranking was based on a combination of metrics including red blood cell, type O blood and platelet collections; attention to quality and cost efficiency. The Division was also honored with the following distinctions:

" 1st in Red Blood Cell Collections

" 1st in Type O Collections

" 1st in Quality Performance

" 2nd in Expense Management

" 3rd in Platelet Collections
The Northern New England Region was also singled out among the 36 regions in the country for the following accomplishments:

" 5th in Red Blood Cell Collections

" 5th in Type O Collections
Headquartered in Burlington, Vermont, the Northern New England Region collects blood in Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. The Region collects over 193,000 units of blood annually for patients in need in 73 hospitals within the three state area. The Region distributes 100,000 Red Blood Cells, 25,000 Single Donor Platelets and 10,000 units of Frozen Plasma each year.
