GREEN MOUNTAIN POWER SENDS CREWS
TO HELP RESTORE POWER IN FLORIDA
COLCHESTER, VT... Green Mountain Power is sending crews to Florida to help
restore power to the areas devastated by the multiple hurricanes.
"The situation in Florida is obviously quite desperate. We know
how complex and exhausting it is to coordinate and repair service
after a major event, and how important it is to have outside crews
available to speed up restoration. Our crews are eager to help
their fellow workers in Florida tackle the monumental task of
repairing extensive damage to the electrical system," said Mary
Powell, chief operating officer of Green Mountain Power.
Early this morning, ten lineworkers, one mechanic and one
supervisor headed for the Daytona International Speedway, which is
the staging area for Florida Power & Light's restoration effort.
The crews will be assigned specific work locations by FP&L staff
when they arrive.
"While this will clearly affect some planned work, we feel we can
manage the impact so that we can provide this needed assistance.
We were careful about where we pulled crews from so that we can
ensure a geographic spread of staff to respond to outages within
our own system," explained Ms. Powell. "Given the depth of
destruction in Florida, we felt this was clearly the appropriate
thing to do," she added.
Florida Power & Light will cover the costs of time and expenses
for the crews while they provide assistance.
