Herlihy Is New Deputy Commissioner Of Vermont Department Of Tourism &
Marketing
MONTPELIER, Vt. - Cathy Herlihy of East Montpelier has been appointed the
new Deputy Commissioner of the Vermont Department of Tourism & Marketing
(VDTM). Herlihy takes over the post from Sybil Chicoine who left in late
September for a job in the private sector after serving as VDTM's Deputy
Commissioner since January of 2002.
Since 1995 Herlihy has been Director of Training & Marketing with the
Vermont Small Business Development Center (SBDC). SBDC is a non-profit
partnership of government, education, and business whose goal is to spur
Vermont's economy by helping small businesses succeed and grow through
training and consultation. SBDC is partially funded by the U.S. Small
Business Administration, the Vermont Department of Economic Development,
and the Vermont State Colleges.
Vermont Tourism & Marketing Commissioner Bruce Hyde said he was pleased to
have someone with Herlihy's background join the Department's management
team.
"Cathy brings a very strong marketing and business development background
to the Department and we're excited to be able to call upon her
demonstrated strengths in marketing, strategic planning and organizational
development," Hyde said. "Cathy will be responsible for much of the
day-to-day operation of the Department and will work closely with the rest
of our senior management team, overseeing VDTM's marketing, public
relations, sales and research efforts.
"I am very excited about this new role and to have the opportunity to work
more closely with Vermont's tourism industry and to focus on a vital
sector of the Vermont economy," Herlihy said. "Over the years, I have had
the opportunity to work with a wide variety of small businesses, including
tourism-related businesses, and to help them address a variety of
challenges. I think understanding those challenges will help guide me in
this new role."
