A new satellite campus in Williston will bring several popular Vermont
Technical College programs to Chittenden County in the fall. The College
plans to offer selected associate's and bachelor's degree programs at its
Blair Park facility to full- and part-time students.
"Demand for our programs continues to grow in Chittenden County and the
northern part of the state," says Vermont Tech president Allan Rodgers,
"Our Blair Park campus will bring Vermont Tech within reach of those who
want to enroll, and prefer to live at home."
Programs at the Williston campus will include associate's degree choices
in Computer Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology,
E-Commerce Technology, and Business Technology and Management. Computer
Engineering Technology will be offered as a bachelor's degree as well, and
students who already hold an associate's degree in a technology field can
pursue a bachelor's in the Management of Technology program.
The same programs will continue to be offered at the main campus in
Randolph Center.
While the fall program expansion is new, the presence of Vermont Tech in
Chittenden County is not. The College opened its Blair Park facility more
than ten years ago, but until now has offered degree programs only to
employees of area businesses, including IBM. The College also operates the
Fanny Allen/Colchester campus as one part of its nursing program, along
with nursing sites in Brattleboro, Bennington, and at the main campus in
Randolph Center.
All of the Vermont State Colleges, which in addition to Vermont Tech
include Castleton, Lyndon, Johnson, and the Community College of Vermont,
have reported an increase in applications this year. College officials
cite the affordability of state college tuitions during difficult economic
times as one factor -- $2804 for a semester at Vermont Tech for the
current academic year --- but surmise that uncertainty over global events
may also influence decisions to attend college closer to home.
Vermont Tech will hold an open house at its Blair Park campus on April 23
from 6-8:30 p.m. for prospective students to view the campus and learn
about admissions criteria and financial aid.
