Vermont Business Magazine From housing affordability to infrastructure resilience, the choices Vermont makes today will define its communities for decades. On Oct. 30, the state's development and business community will convene for the 11th Annual Vermont Development Conference (VDC), hosted by White + Burke Real Estate Advisors at Hotel Champlain.
The conference will bring together more than 300 leaders in real estate, planning, finance, energy, construction, engineering, law, government and policy for a day of debate, dialogue and fresh ideas on Vermont’s most pressing challenges from the housing crisis to infrastructure investment.
This year’s conference will serve as a forum for ideas and debate. Topics include:
- Housing at the Breaking Point – Vermont faces one of the most severe housing shortages in its history. The new $2 billion Community and Housing Infrastructure Program (CHIP) could change the game, but only if communities and developers work together
- Financing Vermont’s Future – From tax credits to opportunity zones, keynote speaker Toby Rittner (CDFA) will outline the tools Vermont needs to unlock investment in housing, infrastructure and community development
- Debating Vermont’s Growth Path – Thought leaders from UVM, the Vermont Futures Project and various state agencies will lead candid discussions on where Vermont is headed — and what it will take to get there
For developers looking for hands-on insights, the conference features sessions designed to make projects more successful in today’s market by sharing the knowledge and strategies needed to get projects built. Highlights include:
- Cost savings despite tariffs
- Lessons from managing complex projects like Weidmann Electrical’s expansion and the Orchards Resort
- Town-led development strategies that show how municipalities can help projects move faster and smarter
- Permitting and land use case law updates and housing innovation tools like pre-approved designs and off-site construction
“Vermont is at a crossroads,” Stephanie Clarke, vice president of White + Burke, said. “We want this conference to go beyond presentations and an echo chamber of similar ideas. Our goal is to spark genuine debate and conversations that move us toward real solutions.”
