VT High Schools Compete for Treasury Cup Trophy - $3,000 First Prize

When:  9:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Friday, March 11, Pavilion Building auditorium, Montpelier. Overview:

The State Treasurer’s Office is holding the eighth statewide high school competition to select a Vermont Treasury Cup Challenge champion. The purpose of the competition is to promote student interest in and knowledge of personal finance, economics and consumer affairs topics. Four-person student teams will compete against each other in a quiz-show style contest that tests individual and team knowledge. Prizes include $500 college savings accounts for each member of the winning team (6 students for $3,000); $250 college savings accounts for each member of the 2nd place team (6 students for $1,500); Champions win the right to display the large gold traveling cup for one year; and individual student trophies for students on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams.

The Competition:

Teams will be placed in bracketed competitions the morning of the championship. The tournament is a ten team, double elimination competition. Each match includes a personal finance round, economics round and lightning round.

·       9 a.m. Check-in Pavilion Auditorium. (starting game brackets drawn)

Teams compete in two separate rooms simultaneously.

·       9:30 a.m. Preliminary competition (Match 1 SR & Match 2 Aud)

·       10 a.m. Preliminary competition (Match 3 SR & Match 4 Aud)

·       10:30 a.m. Preliminary competition (Match 5 SR & Match 6 Aud )

·       11 a.m. Lunch at the State House

·       Noon Match 7 SR & Match 8 Aud

·       12:30 p.m. Match 9 SR & Match 11 Aud

·       1 p.m. Match 10 SR & Match 12 Aud

·       1:30 p.m. Match 13 SR & Match 14 Aud

·       2 p.m. Match 15 Aud & Match 16 SR

·       2:30 p.m. Match 17 Aud

·       3 p.m. Match 18 Aud - CHAMPIONSHIP

·       3:30 p.m. Awards ceremony and iPad drawing
