VMEC Noontime Knowledge series returns: Inventory Management In Uncertain Times - July 20

MFG Day and Month - Friday, October 7 and all of October!

Held annually on the first Friday in October with events that continue throughout the month, MFG Day and Month - Manufacturing Day (October 7) and Month (all of October) - help show the reality of modern manufacturing careers by encouraging thousands of companies and educational institutions around the nation to open their doors to students, parents, teachers and community leaders.

As manufacturers seek to fill 4 million high-skill, high-tech and high-paying jobs over the next decade, MFG Day empowers manufacturers to come together to address their collective challenges so they can help their communities and future generations thrive. It's an opportunity for manufacturers to highlight what's taking place on factory floors across the country and to energize a future pipeline of skilled workers. This annual event gives manufacturers the chance to showcase the potential of modern manufacturing and foster interest in manufacturing careers.

Workforce Training Grants Available to On-Board and Upskill Staff Vermont Training Program (VTP) grants may cover up to 50% of expenses related to training and up-skilling staff, including employee wages for time spent training on the job. Training can be on-site or through an outside provider and funds can even be used to establish an in-house training or apprenticeship program. The grants are available to businesses from all sectors to help Vermont employers create and maintain the skilled workforce needed in order to compete and grow. Visit the VTP webpage for more information and contact John Young, Workforce Training Program Director, at [email protected] to start your application.

Vermont’s Registered Apprenticeship program A federally-recognized initiative administered by the VT Dept. of Labor, the Registered Apprenticeship program has enrolled more than 8,880 apprentices across 35 programs since 2017. These strategies bring together businesses, job seekers, students and educators to offer a pathway to a nationally-portable, recognized post-secondary credential through an “earn while you learn” model. Registered Apprenticeship opportunities exist across many industries in Vermont, including more popular plumbing, electrical, and child development curriculum, but also programs in broadband, bookkeeping, aviation, healthcare, manufacturing, and public safety, among others, can be sought. For individuals exploring future career prospects or seeking a new path, or for employers struggling to create a talent pipeline, learn more about Registered Apprenticeship programs by visiting Apprenticeship in Vermont.

It’s Time to Move from Operational Excellence to Inclusive Excellence We have to ensure that the employees and team members we’re serving bring a diversity of perspectives so we can create organizations capable of solving the complex challenges of our modern world. It’s time for us to move beyond simple operational excellence — making your processes as efficient and cost-effective as possible — and start thinking about inclusive excellence, which prioritizes people above products and profits. Read the complete blog post.

Springfield Area Working Communities Challenge (SAWCC) Employment Research Study Since opening registration last August, the SAWCC has had roughly 125 members of the community join the study to provide input on their employment experience. The research study is intended to collect information from employers and residents pertaining to workforce changes to help understand the impacts of COVID-19. Since its initial release, there have been four survey cycles. Results consistently show that 25 - 30% of participating residents, regardless of employment status, are actively seeking employment; the majority of those seeking new employment are already employed full-time. Enrollment is still open and employers of all sizes are being asked to take part in the study. The information gathered will be shared with participating employers and the responses will be anonymous. If interested in contributing to the next survey cycle, click here
