Vermont’s Emerging Leaders Gather at Vermont Granite Museum June 20

Emerging leaders from across Vermont will be gathering at the Vermont Granite

Museum in Barre on Thursday, June 20 for a night of wood-fired pizza, rousing

speakers, and progressive, with a lower-case p, politics.

Hosted by New Leaders Council Vermont (NLC VT), ‘Building a Progressive

Future: A Night with NLC Vermont’ begins at 6 PM and is open to the public.

The night will feature speakers such Lucy Leriche, vice president of public

policy for Planned Parenthood Vermont Action Fund and Mary Mouton, executive

director of Washington County Mental Health. Donations made for tickets will

include a dinner of wood-fired pizza and a drink from Woodbelly Pizza,

desserts from Nutty Steph’s, and live musical entertainment.

New Leaders Council Vermont is a growing nonprofit leadership training

program that equips emerging progressive leaders with the skills they need to

succeed in their community, business, and politics through a free six-month

training institute.

“Investing in the next generation of Vermont leaders is critical to the

future health and sustainability of our state and communities, and that’s

our mission at NLC VT” says Eric Covey, founding director. “I’m excited

to celebrate the graduation of our inaugural cohort on June 20, and invite

the community to join us for a night of fun to meet our amazing fellows who

will leave their NLC experience better equipped to tackle real problems in

our state with community-centered solutions.”

This past year, 14 young professionals from across the state comprised New

Leaders Council  Vermont’s inaugural cohort. Having just completed the

final session of the NLC Institute, the June 20 event aims to introduce the

organization to the broader community, build support for future cohorts, and

help those interested in joining next year to learn more.

“The fellowship has provided me and my cohort the opportunity to grow

professionally in the areas of campaign management, strategic communications,

and coalition building. I'm excited to see how each of us, collectively and

individually, work to make sustainable changes that positively impact our

communities,” says Jilliene Johnson, an inaugural NLC Vermont cohort member

who works as the diversity, engagement, and professional development director

in the Office of the Vice Provost and Dean of Students at the University of

Vermont.”
