A television phenomenon will come to a close on Sunday, March 6, as Masterpiece’s Downton Abbey airs its final episode, and Vermont PBS is celebrating the acclaimed series with a same-day gala finale event at Burlington’s Flynn Center. “A Proper Cheerio to Downton Abbey,” will feature a theater screening of the full final episode just hours before its broadcast premiere. Also featured: dancing to the Jazz Era with music by the Vermont Jazz Ensemble, a “virtual Downton Abbey” experience, door prizes, hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar.
It’s a golden opportunity for the series’ loyal fans to enjoy the final episode on the big screen, share a sense of Downton camaraderie, and bid Downton Abbey a stylish goodbye after six award-winning seasons. As with previous Downton Abbey events that the station has sponsored, it’s anticipated that many fans will attend in period costume, adding to the festive atmosphere.
The event runs from 2 to 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 6, at the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Burlington. Following the screening, fans will have a chance to dance on the Flynn stage to Jazz-Era music provided by the Vermont Jazz Ensemble. Door prizes include a scenic tour in a 1925 Rolls Royce, a surprise gift from the set of Downton Abbey, and much more. Corporate sponsors for the event include Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Vermont, The Trust Company of Vermont, Merchants Bank and bevo Catering.
Tickets are available at flynntix.org or through the Flynn box office. Tickets will be available at the box office the day of the event.
