Chefs and farmers discuss the future of local food in Vermont
The Vermont Fresh Network (VFN) has announced its 24th Annual Meeting will be hosted by The Inn at the Round Barn in Waitsfield on Tuesday, January 28th. The day’s schedule combines panel discussions with networking opportunities connecting farmers, food producers, distributors, chefs, culinary professionals and any member of the public interested in looking at the future of food in Vermont.
Panels will explore agritourism, Vermont as a wine region, and workforce development. Speakers and attendees will be discussing trends, challenges, and opportunities for VFN members and Vermont’s food and farm community as a whole.
“It is vital for our farmers and chefs to have one-on-one conversations as well as larger discussions about Vermont’s local food system,” said VFN Executive Director Tara Pereira. “VFN’s goal is to strengthen those connections and facilitate partnerships so that we can fulfill our shared mission of a flourishing local food system for the benefit of our environment, our communities, our health and the overall strength of the rural economy.”
Speakers will include: Ashlyn Bristle (Rebop Farm), Lisa Chase (Farm-to-Plate Agritourism Task Force & UVM Extension), Kate Hays (Director of Dining, Wake Robin), Michael Harrington (Commissioner, VT Dept. of Labor), Tim Fishburne (Pete's Greens), Sara DiFillipi (Vermont Department of Tourism), Todd Heyman (Fat Sheep Farm), Gary Symolon (Regional Frontline Recruitment, Sodexo), Cara Chigazola Tobin (Chef-Owner, Honey Road, BTV), Mary Tuthill (Mad River Taste Place) and many of our Vermont winemakers. A complete agenda can be found here. (www.vermontfresh.net/programs/annual-meeting-2020/)
