Registration Required; Free Race Shirt, Hat and Food for Participants
Students in the University of Vermont’s Wellness Environment are again inviting the campus and the general public to celebrate wellness by joining them in an all-ages 5K run (or walk) at 4:20 p.m. on April 20.
In its third year, the event has already attracted more than 900 UVM students, staff and families from the greater Burlington area.
Registration is free, and the first 1,250 participants registered will receive a tech wick shirt and running hat designed for the event. The race course will begin and end at the Archie Post Athletic Complex on the south side of UVM’s Gucciardi Recreation & Fitness Center.
“The UVM WE 4/20 5K for Wellness is an opportunity for the campus and the community to vote for wellness with their feet, to participate in a healthy activity on a day not noted for good decision-making,” said Jim Hudziak M.D., a faculty member at UVM’s Larner College of Medicine and creator and director of the WE program.
“The event is also meant to demonstrate that the majority of students at UVM, residents of the city of Burlington, and citizens of the state of Vermont are in favor of making healthy choices every day of the year,” he said.
This year, the post-race event will feature free samples from local food trucks for all participants, along with music, an inflatable obstacle course and additional giveaways. Information will also be available on health promotion strategies including mindfulness, nutrition, and yoga, all of which are central to the WE model. UVM’s Wellness Environment has received national media attention for its innovative approach to showing the neuroscience of healthy behaviors and providing incentives for students to participate in them.
