United Way, Vermont Department of Health to host conversation on solutions for opiate addiction

February 26, 2014 (South Burlington, VT) – United Way of Chittenden County and the Vermont Department of Health will host a next in a series of Community Conversations about solutions for opiate addiction in Chittenden County on March 5, 2015 at the Winooski Educational Center at 60 Normand Street in Winooski from 4-6:30pm. This meeting will continue community-wide dialogue about the issue and convene partnerships that devise coordinated strategies to address heroin and opiate addiction in Chittenden County.

The Burlington District Office of the Vermont Department or Health and United Way of Chittenden County have partnered with multiple stakeholders to organize and host the series of community forums designed to raise awareness of issues of opiate addiction in Chittenden County, educate about available resources and engage all sectors of the community in solution-building.  The topic of this Community Conversation is Living In and Creating an Environment of Safety and Wellness. Attendees will take a closer look at The Dream Center in Rutland, hear about how Neighborhood Watch programs and revitalization efforts are making a difference, and leave with tools and resources to strengthen neighborhoods. United Way encourages attendees to invite a friend, neighbor, or neighborhood team.

“These Community Conversations are a forum to express concern, feel supported and connect with others who want to keep our community healthy and safe. Together, we will continue to share resources, identify solutions and learn how we can work together to tackle this problem,” said United Way Community Impact Manager Raquel Aronhime. “With increased public awareness has come a surge of willful energy from citizens and organizations throughout the state to get involved. We’re proud of our community for stepping up to work together on this.”
