The annual influx of thousands of endurance athletes, their friends and their families will once again be rolling into the Mount Snow Valley when Tough Mudder New England returns to Mount Snow on May 31 and June 1.
This will be the fifth Tough Mudder held at Mount Snow - the resort hosted two events over the summer of 2012 – with each of the four previous events serving as an economic boon to the local area with lodging sold out for miles and restaurants busy catering to the thousands of people that come to participate or spectate.
Officials anticipate this weekend’s event to be equally as popular with both the resort and local businesses gearing up for what is expected to be a very busy weekend.
“It is always a great event that attracts great people who we hope enjoy the Mount Snow Valley and return for a visit with their families in the future,” said Mount Snow’s general manager, Kelly Pawlak. “This time of year is perfect to hold an event of this size because the weather is nice and it’s still shoulder season, so for businesses to have a busy few days is a nice boost.”
Participants traditionally rate the Tough Mudder New England stop as one of the best on the endurance event’s global schedule, drawing people from all over the Northeast to southern Vermont.
This year’s Tough Mudder course will feature some new obstacles and will take participants on a 10-mile jaunt up and down Mount Snow. A total of about 20 different challenging obstacles set throughout the course will feature mud, water, electric shocks and barbed wire. When participants complete the course they are awarded a trademark orange headband and a cold beer before enjoying the finish area party in Mount Snow’s Main Base Area.
