the 7th annual Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) festival

We're expecting a huge turnout of SUP enthusiasts, racers, and demo participants.There will be demos, clinics, a 3 mile recreational race, a 6 mile elite race, and plenty of good times. All proceeds help support the Community Sailing Center. 

This year's WPA (World Paddle Association) Sanctioned event will be held on Burlington's waterfront park and includes a $3,500 cash purse for Elite Racers.

Water Works Fair

celebrate Vermont’s greatest natural resource with hands-on educational activities

Sunday August 9th – 10:00a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Experiential education provides the critical link to our lake and develops future stewards for its health and future generations.

Community partners include the Lake Champlain Basin ProgramLake Champlain Sea Grant – UVM Watershed AllianceLake Champlain CommitteeWinooski Valley Parks DistrictECHO Leahy Center for Lake ChamplainWinooski Natural Resources Conservation DistrictVermont Natural Resources Council, and Let’s Go Fishing.

The fair will be held in Waterfront Park adjacent to ECHO Leahy Center for Lake Champlain. There will opportunities for participants to catch plankton, ID fish, explore lakeside creatures using microscopes and much more. Community partners from across the state will be there to guide you in your adventures and explorations.

Both events are in partnership with the 2015 Lake Champlain Maritime Festival.

 

Women in Wind Event

Sailing, yoga on land, and paddleboarding in the company of women 

Presented by Greater Burlington Women's Forum

Thursday August 20th - 5:00 to 7:30 p.m.

Enjoy the opportunity to network with women in our community. Several guest speakers will be discussing their work in different food industries, from restaurant management to nutrition, all while you enjoy snacks on the shore overlooking beautiful Lake Champlain. All activities will take place outdoors, and the weather can be unpredictable so please come prepared for all types of weather! This is a free event, and donations are welcome at the door. Checks can be made out to the Community Sailing Center.

Sailing Basics: Dinghy Learn-to-sail Course *Just added

Sailing dinghies offer an excellent opportunity to get an active, hands-on introduction to the sport of sailing. These fun vessels seat 2-3 adults and bring you close to the water, allowing you to feel how the waves and wind affect the boat immediately.

August 24th - 28th, 5 p.m. - 8 p.m.

Laser Skill-Building Clinic *Just added

This 3-hour skill-building sailing class will help you become a better Laser sailor by fine-tuning your existing sailing skills. Instruction will focus on boat set up, boat handling, and sail trim to maximize your boat speed in a Laser.

Keelboat Sailing Basics Weekends

If you have never experienced big-boat sailing or enjoy the more relaxed side of the sport, then keelboats are the right boat for you. Unlike the dinghy course you will be in a large boat with several adults and an instructor, all learning how to sail together.

Cooking & Sailing Camp

Campers will spend the morning sailing, then explore organic and local culinary pursuits in the kitchen at Healthy Living Market and Café. Ages 9-12.

Climbing & Sailing Camp

Campers will explore Petra Cliffs’ ropes course and other climbing activities. Students also enjoy the fundamental skills of sailing small boats on the lake. Ages 10-14.

Lake Champlain Race Week

A full week of racing and camaraderie

Sunday August 9th - Friday, August 14th

Attention Lake Champlain sailors and racers! The Malletts Bay Boat Club (MBBC), Lake Champlain Yacht Club (LCYC), and Community Sailing Center (LCCSC) cordially invite you to the first annual Lake Champlain Race Week. MBBC is sponsoring this innovative event, which will incorporate six - days/evenings of regularly scheduled sailboat racing at MBBC, LCYC, and LCCSC. Scoring will be conducted per individual participant, regardless of his/her position on the boat. There is no entry fee, however you must sign up via email ([email protected]) prior to the event. The event's goal is to increase junior racers so campers are highly encouraged to participate.
