Senator Patrick Leahy's Tuesday Schedule In Rutland Tuesday August 11
1:30 p.m. – Groundbreaking for Rutland’s Center Street Marketplace, in Center Street alley across from Washington Street entrance to Rutland City Hall.
Senator Leahy secured $974,000 for streetscape improvements, including new brickwork, lighting, benches and trees that will open up the alley for public use.
2:45 p.m. – Leahy and employees of the U.S. Forest Service to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the federal Forest Legacy Program. The program, which was part of the 1990 Federal Farm Bill, provides grants for the purchase of conservation easements that prevent the conversion of land to non-forest uses while allowing continued forestry based and/or recreational use. Since its inception, the program has conserved more than 66,000 acres in Vermont. U.S. Forest Service offices, 231 N. Main Street (Route 7), Rutland.
5:30 p.m. – Leahy to tour “Winter in August,” the annual Rutland Region Chamber of Commerce event recognizing the positive impact of the ski industry on the Rutland region and Vermont. Instead of being held on Merchants Row as usual, it will be held at the Vermont Farmers Food Center, 251 West Street, Rutland
