Now in its 15th year, Girls on the Run Vermont announces its annual Northern VT 5K Run/Walk, which takes place Saturday, June 7th, at 10am at the Champlain Valley Expo. This celebratory event is the culmination of GOTRVT’s 10-week afterschool program for 3rd to 8th grade girls and is open to anyone who wishes to participate or attend as spectators.
Proceeds from the event benefit the Scholarship Fund at Girls on the Run Vermont, a non-profit organization that helps inspire girls to develop physical, emotional and social well-being, offering strategies for dealing with everything from body image and bullying to peer pressure and the media, in healthy, positive ways, including exercise. This interactive educational program, delivered by over 700 volunteer coaches across Vermont, fosters a sense of self-esteem, team-work, compassion and community. This year, the Girls on the Run Vermont program, along with Girls on Track for 6th to 8th grade girls, will reach 3,000 girls throughout the state at over 140 schools.
Registration for the 5k is $10 for children, $20 for adults and $40 for a household of three or more. Online registration ends midnight June 4th at www.girlsontherunvermont.org/5k-information, where mail-in reg forms can also be downloaded and sent to 22 Browne Court, Ste 103B, Brattleboro, VT 05301 (must be postmarked by May 31st). Day-of-event registration is from 8:30-9:30am (cash or check only) and the adult fee will be $5 more. The first 100 members of the public who submit a registration (regardless of method) receive a free GOTR 5K T-shirt. Girls in the GOTRVT program are already registered for the 5k event.
Volunteers are needed to help with the 5K, at the start and finish lines, at water stops and along the course. Individuals, families and groups—school clubs, sports teams and others—can sign up in advance to volunteer.
