Evening event at DoubleTree (6:30)
Frank Abagnale is coming to speak on June 27. Frank was the real life conman played by Leo DiCaprio in the movie Catch Me If You Can. Since being busted decades ago overseas he has been working with the FBI and law enforcement to help catch other scammers and criminals – especially in the area of identity theft. AARP Vermont is bringing him to Burlington to speak to members and the public about protecting themselves from fraud.
His story is fascinating and his information on fraud prevention is very relevant today. He will be available for interviews and questions at 12 – 3 PM on Thursday, June 27, and presents that evening at the DoubleTree Hotel at 6:30 PM.
Background:
For over four decades, Frank W. Abagnale has advised the FBI on how to outsmart con artists and now he’s coming Burlington at the DoubleTree Hotel on June 27 at 6:30 to help us learn how to spot and avoid scams so we can protect our families. As one of the world’s most respected authorities on forgery, embezzlement and secure documents, Abagnale has joined forces with the AARP Fraud Watch Network and AARP Vermont.
Between the ages of 16 and 21, Abagnale successfully posed as an airline pilot, an attorney, a doctor and cashed millions in fraudulent checks. In case you didn’t read the best-selling book…spoiler alert…he got caught and his exploits were depicted in the movie Catch Me If You Can starring Leonardo DiCaprio. Today, Abagnale is an expert on the subject of identity theft, has written three books on the subject and served as a consultant to some of the largest companies in the world on the subject of cybercrime.
