Farmers LAUNCH CONNECTICUT RIVER FARMERs’ WATERSHED ALLIANCE

Goal to Preserve Water Quality in Vermont and New Hampshire

Farmers and agricultural leaders will pro-actively launch a new regional initiative to help sustain the environmental health of the Connecticut River watershed.

WHAT: Press conference and informational meeting to launch the Connecticut River Farmers’ Watershed Alliance (CRFWA) for farmers who operate between the Green and White Mountains of Vermont and New Hampshire.

WHO:  

·        Farmers, local government officials, and other agencies with responsibilities and interests in protecting the watershed.

·        Introductory remarks by Dan Smith, President of Vermont Technical College              

WHEN: Friday, December 18th at 11:00 a.m.

WHERE: Hosted at Vermont Technical College’s Norwich Farms: 723 Turnpike Road, Norwich, VT 05055.

WHY:        

·        STEWARDSHIP: To protect and improve the health of the Connecticut River watershed for current and future generations through stewardship activities and education for decision-makers in all sectors of agriculture.

·        RAPs FEEDBACK: Feedback on the draft Required Agricultural Practices (RAPs) proposed by the Vermont Agency of Agriculture is due on December 18, 2015.

ABOUT CRFWA:

The economic viability of dairy agriculture in the Connecticut River Watershed is dependent upon environmental practices that improve the soil, air and water quality. The dairy industry encourages all sectors of agriculture as well as municipalities and others to join in recognizing our shared responsibility to sustain the environmental health of the watershed area.  The Connecticut River Farmers’ Watershed Alliance is committed and dedicated to preserving the quality of our environment while maintaining a strong agricultural sector for the economic and social benefit of the region.
