Generator is getting involved to help change the gender gap story by empowering teenagers to explore tech careers through workshops and being introduced to alternative resources. Generator Makerspace and Vermont Works for Women present SPARK: Women Can Do @ Generator, a free career exploration event for female and non-binary identifying high school students in grades 11 and 12. On May 9th for this one-day event, they will meet women who are shaping the technology landscape of Vermont, participate in hands-on activities, and be introduced to the makerspace community! SPARK will have a networking event and tour at Champlain College where students will meet women in technology and STEM fields. Featured workshops include Find a Career that Fits with Rachel Kauppila giving tips and tools to help frame thinking about career paths, industries, and how to get into a field that's going to work for you. Be Your Own Boss is the entrepreneurs' startup guide lead by Laurel Butler and Gwen Pokalo. Students will engage in hands-on activities such as Building computers//Running CNC Routers//TIG welding//Electronic Laser Cut Keychains//Soldering and Circuitry//Engineering Challenges.

School administrators must return student registration forms along with proof of school insurance no later than April 30, 2018. Scan/email forms to [email protected] or mail to 32A Malletts Bay Ave. Winooski VT 05404. Registrations will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants may be turned away due to lack of space. Please note: schools are responsible for transportation to and from Generator Makerspace for this event.
