Over 100 Participants to Raise Awareness and Funding for Lung Disease in Annual Fight for Air Climb Event

American Lung Association to Hold Annual Fight for Air Climb at Historic Bennington Battle Monument on Saturday, June 11

American Lung Association of the Northeast will bring together over 100 participants and 24 firefighters for the 8th annual Fight for Air Climb at the Bennington Battle Monument.  Participants will walk, jog or race up 412 stairs to raise awareness and funding for lung disease research.

The event will include two segments.  The day begins with the Civilian Challenge, which is open to all members of the public.  That will be followed by a timed Firefighter Challenge, where 24 local firefighters will compete in a timed portion of the event, and race to top while wearing full fire-fighting gear, weighing nearly 70 lbs.

Fight for Air Climb events are the American Lung Association’s most unique fundraisers. Climbs take place in prominent skyscrapers, stadiums or arenas and involve walking, running or racing up hundreds of steps. Sometimes called a "vertical road race," teams and individual participants can use the event as a fitness target, as a race, or as a great way to be active and meet new friends.

When: Saturday, June 11, 2016. Registration opens promptly at 9:00 a.m. and the first climber takes off at 10:00 a.m. The Firefighter Challenge is expected to begin shortly the Civilian Challenge is completed.

Where: Bennington Battle Monument, 15 Monument Circle

Why:   Thousands of Vermont residents suffer from lung diseases including lung cancer, COPD and asthma.  The funds raised at the Fight for Air Climb support the Lung Association’s mission to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease.
