Agency of Transportation announces 2020 Highway Safety Award Ceremony March 31

Barre, Vt. – The Vermont Agency of Transportation (AOT) State Highway Safety Office (SHSO) today announced that it will release the videorecorded 2020 Highway Safety Award Ceremony at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 31st.

The Highway Safety Awards are presented annually at the Vermont Highway Safety Alliance’s fall conference. Due to COVID, the 2020 fall conference was cancelled. The award ceremony was recorded virtually and will be released next week through AOT social media and the SHSO email list serve.

In the recorded ceremony, Transportation Secretary Joe Flynn presents the awards and honors the recipients with a statement about each person’s contributions to highway safety and pertinent professional background and achievements.

“Safety is the top priority in all areas of our Agency,” said Secretary Flynn. “We are very grateful to the honorees for all the work they have done to increase the safety of people who use Vermont highways.”

Recipients will be notified about their awards on Monday, March 29, to ensure that they are aware of the recorded ceremony before it is released.

In federal fiscal year 2021, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration awarded the State of Vermont $6.4 million for highway safety behavior change programs. The SHSO awards federal highway safety grants to local, state, and non-profit agencies for projects to improve highway safety and reduce deaths and serious injuries due to crashes.

The State Highway Safety Office wishes to thank all of its highway safety partners, who continue to work to make our roads safer for all users.
