Vermont Business Magazine The CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices met Wednesday to discuss the latest data on reports of mild cases of inflammation of the heart muscle and surrounding tissue called myocarditis and pericarditis following COVID-19 vaccination among younger people. The panel of experts said this is an extremely rare side effect, and only an exceedingly small number of people will experience it after vaccination. Importantly, for the young people who do, most cases are mild, and they can recover often on their own or with minimal treatment. Also, the VDH is reporting today that there were seven new cases of COVID-19 and no deaths, which are at 256; there has been only one fatality in the last six weeks. For those 12 and older, 81.4 percent of Vermonters have been vaccinated (448,400).

Vermont Business Magazine The Task Force on the Implementation of the Pupil Weighting Factors Report will hold its first meeting on June 29, 2021, from 9 am to noon via videoconference. The Task Force will recommend to the General Assembly an action plan and proposed legislation to ensure that all public school students have equitable access to educational opportunities. The recommendations are due to the General Assembly by December 15, 2021.

Vermont Business Magazine Six Vermont Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) are receiving Rapid Response Program funds worth $5.7 million, as authorized by the Fiscal Year 2021 Consolidated Appropriations Act. The grants will provide capital needed for CDFIs to respond to economic challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly in underserved communities. Senator Patrick Leahy (D-Vermont), Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont) and Representative Peter Welch (D-Vermont) announced the awards on Thursday.

Vermont Business Magazine Attorney General TJ Donovan announced that Jeremy Quillia, 38, of Hartland, Vermont, was arraigned yesterday on two counts of Possession of Child Sex Abuse Materials. The charges brought against Quillia are the result of a criminal investigation including the execution of residential and online data search warrants conducted by the Vermont Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (VT-ICAC), including personnel from the Attorney General’s Office, Homeland Security Investigations, the Vermont State Police, and with the assistance of the Hartford Police Department.

Vermont Business Magazine Today, the Vermont Senate voted to override the Governor’s vetoes of Winooski and Montpelier charter changes (H227 and H177) by identical votes of 20-10. They also passed S79, act relating to improving rental housing health and safety. The House on Wednesday also overrode the two charter change vetoes. Action on the S79 housing bill was expected during this veto session.
