Vermont Business Magazine The Summer Gala—the Southwestern Vermont Health Care (SVHC) Foundation’s signature fundraising event and the region’s most elegant charity occasion—was held for the first time in 2 years on the evening of June 11 at the Hubbell Homestead in Bennington. The event hosted more than 400 people and raised more than $450,000. This is the highest amount ever raised at an SVHC event. Funds raised will support the Vision 2020 project to renovate and expand the Emergency Department and Regional Cancer Center.
Vermont Business Magazine The UVMHN-Porter Medical Center is inviting community members to apply for two upcoming openings on its Board of Trustees. The new members will replace outgoing Trustees who will reach the end of their term in September of 2022. The 19-member Board of Trustees is responsible for representing Porter Medical Center as a member of the UVM Health Network. Trustees are also responsible for overseeing Porter Medical Center to ensure it fulfills its mission and serves the needs of our community.
Vermont Business Magazine Rutland Regional Medical Center announced today that it has achieved the Healthgrades 2022 Outstanding Patient Experience Award. This distinction places Rutland Regional among the top 10 percent of hospitals nationwide for patient experience, according to Healthgrades, the leading marketplace that connects people with the right doctor and hospital. For this annual analysis, Healthgrades evaluated 3,173 hospitals that submitted at least 75 patient experience surveys to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), covering admissions from July 2020 to March 2021. Of those hospitals evaluated, 399 hospitals outperformed their peers—based on their patients’ responses—to achieve this award.
Vermont Business Magazine Central Vermont Medical Center (CVMC) has opened a second location in Waterbury Center to increase the community’s access to world-class orthopedic and sports medicine from our highly skilled doctors. The new practice, located off VT-100N, near the Cabot Annex, opened on June 1. It provides an alternative to the Berlin location for residents in the Mad River Valley, Waterbury and Stowe and the surrounding areas. J.P. Begly, MD, an orthopedic surgeon at CVMC and a U.S. Ski & Snowboard Team Volunteer Physician, will care for patients at the facility. Sara Graves, MD, MS, also an orthopedic surgeon, is also offering care, along with Orthopedic Physician Assistant Helen Hollenbach, PA-C.

Vermont Business Magazine Camp Ta-Kum-Ta last Wednesday night received the $10,000 first-place award in Vermont as part of the 8th Annual IMPACT Awards, a joint initiative of the Red Sox Foundation and the Ruderman Family Foundation, which for the third consecutive year is continuing its mission to support organizations that have demonstrated a deep impact in raising awareness and improving the mental health outcomes in their community. One of 18 winners across six states in New England, Camp Ta-Kum-Ta provides challenging, extraordinary experiences in a safe and loving environment for children who have or have had cancer and their families free of charge.

NVRH, which decided to donate the funds as part of National Doctors’ Day, is proud to support local nonprofits and their missions to improve the lives of their community members. H.O.P.E. is a private, nonprofit agency that helps families and individuals with life's basic needs. H.O.P.E is not affiliated with any religious organization or agency, and to fund its mission, operates a thrift store in Lyndonville.
Vermont Business Magazine The VNA & Hospice of the Southwest Region is pleased to partner with Pajama Program, a national nonprofit organization that promotes and supports a comforting bedtime routine and healthy sleep to help children thrive. Pajama Program donated 110 sets of pajamas and age-appropriate books for children who receive nurse home visits in either Strong Families Vermont or Children’s Integrated Services. Both of these programs are part of the agency’s Maternal Child Health division, which provides various services from prenatal education through early childhood.

Vermont Business Magazine The Vermont Public Utility Commission issued its required update of the state’s net-metering program on June 17. As a result of the adjustments, most existing net-metering systems will see an increase in their compensation. Future systems that apply for permits on and after September 1, 2022, will see a small net decrease in compensation compared to existing systems. The trend toward many more net-metered projects ultimately increases rates for Vermonters who do not or are unable to participate in the net-metering program.
